This year the spooky season brings a new plan for anyone with a soft spot for home-grown horror. MGA Agency has announced HORROR MADE IN sPAIN, a Steam event devoted to Spanish horror games that runs from 12 to 26 October.
The organisers picked the line-up themselves and it adds up to fifteen games, though they prefer to call it 13+2 because of the sinister meaning of that first number. Over those two weeks there will be demos, discounts and live streams with the development teams.
A small showcase on purpose
The idea behind the event is to go against the grain, since Steam runs festivals with hundreds or thousands of games all the time. It is almost impossible for a small one to get noticed in there. HORROR MADE IN sPAIN trims the line-up to fifteen titles so that each one gets real room. It also gives Spanish horror games a space of their own.
The selection mixes the past, present and future of Spanish horror. Some games have been out for years, like CLeM or Among Ashes, while others arrived this very year, like Crisol or The Occultist. There are also several with no date yet, among them INANIMA, Dark Mass or Catechesis.

Of the Spanish horror games still without a date, Tuned In is the only one you can already try, because its prologue has been free on Steam since August. The Zibbo Show comes out on 29 October, right as the event is wrapping up.

Why 13+2 and not 15?
The organisers explain it themselves and it is rather funny. Thirteen struck them as the perfect number for a horror event, but two of the studios they wrote to replied after the deadline. They liked those games so much that they could not leave them out, so thirteen ended up patched with a sum.
It sounds like a great excuse to me. Above all, I am glad to see an event that gives Spanish horror its own space instead of throwing it on the pile.
