I recommend 10 games from devINITIVE Showcase 2026

Yesterday, 16 September, the second devINITIVE Showcase took place, an online event that covers games from Spain and Latin America. Its organisers picked 90 projects out of more than 250 submissions, so we saw an enormous amount of variety, in themes, in mechanics and in art styles.

I was genuinely surprised by the standard of the event. You can tell the Spanish-speaking indie scene is growing and evolving at a huge pace.

In this article I recommend ten games that personally caught my eye. I think they fit my tastes quite well. They are ordered by their appearance in the event, not from best to worst. I hope you like them too. Here we go.

The Birdsong Tree

We start with a cozy building sim in which you look after a living urban tree and watch the birds that come to it. I find the concept really endearing. You also design custom birdhouses and watch the tree grow at its own pace.

The interesting part is the balancing act, because sound, the variety of species and even the neighbours’ reactions shape what you can build. It is in 2.5D, with a stylised, very clean look.

Next up is a 2D narrative adventure set in Valparaíso, Chile. You follow two cyclists, explore the city and solve small puzzles as you discover their routines and their lives.

The game is about the connection between two strangers and whether they will ever meet. It is probably perfect if you are after a comforting afternoon, a good story and you enjoy hunting for hidden objects.

Toymaker: Threads of Joy

Another cozy one. In Toymaker you run a plush toy shop in the Salamanca of 1911. You sew your own toys, serve customers with their own quirks and get to know the neighbours of a city with a touch of magic.

The story starts from a folk legend and opens into two narrative paths that change the future of the city. All hand-drawn and full of colour.

Donna the Firebreather

This one, without a doubt, left everyone impressed with its art style: 1-bit pixel art. Only two colours on screen, a bold aesthetic choice that gives it a very recognisable old comic feel.

It is also an adventure about growing up and finding yourself. You explore the city of Corado, talk to its inhabitants, collect objects and run errands with one goal: getting your circus family out of prison.

The Sky Project: Land of Noris

• Genre: RPG and adventure, creature collecting

Now for a creature collector that is hand-drawn, with more than 200 mana creatures spread across four different planes and turn-based combat. Obviously, if there is a creature-catching game around, it had to be in my list of recommendations.

That said, although it looks cosy, it comes with a penalty that means every creature you lose can be gone forever. That makes each fight far tenser than usual for the genre.

Castaway Trails

Another devINITIVE Showcase game with a pixel look was Castaway Trails, in which you recruit companions and have to survive together. It reminds me a little of Miitopia, because friendships, romances and rivalries develop during the adventure.

It is a sandbox with turn-based combat where no two runs are the same, so it has a lot of replayability. If you like games where the characters write the story as they go, give it a look.

Fourleaf Fields

• Genre: Farming and life sim

At first glance it looks like the typical Stardew Valley-style farming sim, but its premise is quite peculiar, because in this game you are tiny. You grow giant plants seen from ground level and look after the bugs living on the farm from a completely new perspective.

It also has a dating sim and a web of secrets that unravels through gossip between neighbours. I love that social side. On top of that, you can play alone or with friends, all in a colourful, cheerful pixel style.

Bottled by Bears

Another cozy one for the Steam wishlist. Here you join a family of bears to run an apiary, collecting different bees and filling honey jars while you expand the field until it blooms completely.

It is an idle management game, the kind that keeps going while you are away. It also has the closest release date of the whole list.

Neverway

• Title: Neverway

• Genre: RPG, life sim and psychological horror

Among the devINITIVE Showcase games there was one you may recognise, since it has been going viral on social media for a while.

It starts like many games in the genre, introducing Fiona, a girl who quits a dead-end job and moves to a farm. What starts to hit is that she becomes the immortal emissary of a dead god. After that, you make friends, farm, fight horrors and pay off your debts.

It is the strangest mix on the list, giving us a life sim and psychological horror at the same time, in pixels with a dark palette and several endings. It is co-published by Outersloth, investors known for backing indie games like Among Us, so we can expect a fair amount of quality from the project.

Moonlight Pale

• Genre: Psychological horror and action

And to finish, I should say I do not usually like horror games, but this one caught my attention because of its style. It is like a chibi, gloomy anime, which creates a really striking contrast. It also reminds me of RPG Maker games like Mad Father, which I loved.

Here, Juliette follows the ghost of her dead cat into a nightmare shaped like a boarding school, where she has to fight and solve puzzles along corridors that feel unsettlingly familiar.

As well as surviving, she has to help the other girls trapped there and uncover what is hidden beneath the Saint Birgitta Girls’ Seminary. It has several endings and its story will probably surprise us.
